Three piles
Take a sheet of paper and write down everything on your mind, in any order. Then sort each item into one of three piles.
- This week. Things with a real date attached, or that affect today: food, sleep, work, a reply you have promised.
- Later. Important things that do not need deciding now. Writing them down lets you put them aside without losing them.
- Someone else. Questions that belong with a qualified specialist. You can note who to ask without trying to answer the question yourself.
Choose one next step
From the first pile, choose one thing that is small enough to do in a day. One modest task may feel more manageable than starting several at once.
Who is right for which question
Friends and family are good for company and kindness. Professionals are right for advice. Keeping the two apart can make both easier.
